Welcome back to another Sweet Saturday Samples.
This week I have a sample of an untitled WIP I’m working on for my vampire series, Sentries of Night. This is a first rough draft and the rating is PG-13.
Arianna Sinclair stepped out of the shower with a curse. The door bell sounded off like a fire alarm. The nonstop ding dong indicated her impatient visitor had a finger pressed down on the button. She quickly wrapped a towel around her long brown hair and threw on her purple terrycloth robe.
Whoever was at the door released the buzzer and now pounded on the door like a lunatic. That pissed her off.
“Coming damn it!” She tightened the belt on her robe as she stomped down the hall into the living room. “I’ll pound on whoever’s head if they break my damn door.” She muttered to herself as she entered the living room. The pounding on the door stopped as soon as she entered she living room. A hint of fear glided over her. The clock above the mantel read 10:15. Who would be at her door at that time of night?
She slightly moved to the small ascent table by the door. Inside a hidden draw on the side was a Glock 9 mm. She lifted the gun out of the draw and slipped it into her robe pocket. Thank God for deep pockets.
With the gun in her pocket and her hand over it, her heartbeat kicked up. She was starting to develop her father’s paranoia. A light knock on the door mad her jump.
“Dude!” She rose up on her toes to see out the peep hole. With a heavy sigh of relief and annoyance she unlocked the door and jerked it open. “I was ready to shoot you!” She turned away from her father to put the gun back in its home. “Why in the hell were you pounding on my door?”
She stood in front of him with her arms crossed over her breast and glared at him. Sevin’s long pitch black hair was pulled back. A frown etched into his handsome face. Her shoulders dropped at the concern in his eyes. Why? She’d been home most the day. Had he just arrived himself?
She unfolded her arms and took one of his hands in hers. “How long have you been ringing the bell?”
She gasped as his arms circle around her, pulling her tight against his chest. Head against his chest she wrapped her arms around him. He always made her feel like his little girl. Precious and special. Ate up every second of it, but today something was wrong. She could feel it.
“I tried to call you. Then I came over. The lights were on but you weren’t answering the doorbell. I panicked,” he said into the towel still wrapped around her hair.
“I was taking a shower.”
She liked to take long showers, loved to let the hot sprays of water pour over her body washing away the day’s stresses.
“What’s wrong, daddy?” she asked and stepped out of his embrace.
